𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 Part 6
The first visit of the new instructor felt a bit strange. She first wanted to see Pura without a saddle to see how she looks. This was the first time anyone had said that to me, but it really showed me a new level how to approach a horse when you come for the first time. She explained to me that Pura was muscles upside down. Her underneck was too developed and her topline lacked a lot of muscle.
Not really the first things you want to hear when you've been trying so hard to get this horse in a better shape 😅 but I could respect her honesty.
We went to work.
Although I felt that Pura was becoming more relaxed in the walk I didn't really get her to fully stretch the topline. In the trot she was still spooking a lot. Bolting off, fleeing away and generally just not relaxed. And she also wasn't improving.
My instructor kept coming back every month but despite all my efforts Pura didn't change that much while Nikki was thriving. She told me it was probably better to take a step back and start with some lunging to which my response was 'I've lunged horses for hours and hours, no way I am going down that road gain. I will right her straight'.
I could not have been more wrong..
